The Queen Lili'uokalani World Championship long distance canoe race took place on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Over 1700 paddlers finished the 18 mile race between Kailua Bay and Honaunau. This 77 minute video covers both the wahine and kane races. In the wahine (womens) race the video includes about half of the paddlers launching / paddling to the start line. Most of the wahines were taped finishing the race. There are also many people shots of Honaunau and the park. The start of the mens race was shot 1/2 mile north of the start line. It was impressive seeing over one hundred canoes passing by at the start of the race. The finish was filmed from the pier in Kailua Kona. Most of the kane teams were taped finishing the race. The footage was shot using a high definition camera in the 16 by 9 widescreen mode. This widescreen mode was usefull in capturing many of the shots. The format will show a letterbox (black on top and bottom of the TV) since the high def footage had to be converted to the standard definition 4 by 3 (16 by 12) to edit and create the DVDs for playback. The DVDs will be burned using DVD-R disc which play on almost all players. If there is any problem I can make copies using the DVD+R format.
